Saving a Sagging Floor in Riverside, RI
Challenge
This customer in Riverside, RI was faced with a sagging floor in his home. Whenever he'd walk through the room to leave his house, he'd always get bothered by the slope in the middle of the floor. His concern over the structural integrity of the home increased as well, leading him to call us for a solution.
Our appointment center scheduled one of our inspectors to assess the floor to determine a solution. When the inspector arrived at the basement, he noticed that the floor support that was rotting! The then measured the relative humidity in the room and explained to the homeowner that the excess moisture in this crawl space caused the floor support to weaken. When areas become to humid, any organic material, such as wood, begins to rot. From these observations, the inspector suggested that we raise the floor up with our SmartJack system and encapsulate the crawl space with CleanSpace vapor barrier and SilverGLo wall insulation. Lastly, he included a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to help lower the humidity.
After discussing the details, the homeowner and the inspector reached an agreement and the installation was on the way.
Solution
Upon the day of the installation, our production team arrived and began cleaning out any dirt and debris that was sitting in this crawl space. Then, they installed 4 SmartJacks below the sagging floor to raise it back to the correct level. These steel piers are perfect for keeping the floor in place, and provide an adjustable feature in case future settling occurs. Then, they lined up the floor with CleanSpace to ensure no moisture can seep through. After, SilverGlo wall insulation was inserted to help maintain a constant temperature all throughout the year. Once everything was complete, the last step was to simply plug in our SaniDry Sedona!
Now, this floor has been restored and the crawl space is properly sealed up for years to come. This customer won't have to worry about the structural integrity of his floor any longer and can live with a peace of mind!
