Future Homeowner Looking To Add Support To A Crawl Space In Marshfield, MA

Challenge

A homeowner in Marshfield, MA was closing in on a house and was very excited to begin his new chapter with his family! He wanted the home to be in the best shape of its life, but he noticed the crawl space was in poor condition. To add onto that, the floor above was a little unstable, as the support pillars looked a bit crooked. He called us because he wanted to provide more support for the crawl space to give him a peace of mind when his family is moved in. 

We sent over one of our inspectors to delve into the crawl space and identify any issues. From his findings, there was mold growth on the wood inside of the crawl space. When mold invades organic material like wood, it causes it to rot and ruin the structural integrity of the home. After observing the issue, the inspector spoke to the future homeowner and discussed possible solutions to prevent future mold growth and a collapsed floor. 

Solution

In the proposal, the inspector suggested fully encapsulating this crawl space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier to prevent any future mold growth from occurring. This thick white liner will prevent moisture seepage to lower the humidity and stop future mold growth. He also suggested installing our reliable SmartJack floor support system to stabilize this floor to avoid structural damages in the long run. The homeowner saw this as a no-brainer and agreed to the transformation since this is exactly what he was looking for! 

Once the agreement was made, our production crew arrived on site weeks later to begin the transformation! The crew first cleared off any debris that was lying around the cold dirt floor. This makes the encapsulation process more smooth for when they laid down the CleanSpace vapor barrier! After, they installed our own supplemental support beam to be lifted by our SmartJacks to give the floor the strength it needed to stabilize. Both of our beam and SmartJacks are steel, which is much better than having wood to avoid future mold growth if moisture were to seep through. Once the crawl space was fully wrapped up, the job was done and the customer was relieved that he wouldn't have to worry about this portion of the house when they move in!
