Supporting A Sagging Floor in Marlborough, MA
Challenge
This homeowner in Marlborough, MA was faced with a sagging floor above his basement. He didn't even notice this until he saw parts of the wooden support beam deteriorating from the mold growth that was overtaking it. All he could think about was a possible structural collapse if he didn't act upon this issue. He started to look online for a system that will prevent the floor from collapsing, which can be an expensive repair, in addition, he didn't want to risk the lives of anybody living in his home. To help determine the best possible solution, we sent out one of our system design specialists to a closer look at the issue to cater a foundational support solution.
Solution
The system design specialist pointed out the weak spot which was the support beam, he determined that our SmartJack floor support system would cater best to his current issue. These SmartJacks were suggested because they provide permanent stability, and the chance to adjust when the foundation begins to move. The specialist found that 2 of the support beams were at risk of completely failing, so it was called for 2 SmartJacks to be placed under each supporting beam, like so.
Lastly, understanding the root cause of the rotten wood, we covered the interior walls with CleanSpace wall vapor barrier. This will prevent any moisture from the outside from seeping in through these porous walls, which prevents future mold growth. Once the system was all set, the homeowner didn't have to worry about his floor falling apart which gave him an everlasting peace of mind!
