Humid Basement Needs Foundation Repair in Springfield, MA
Challenge
This customer in Springfield, MA contacted us to evaluate the condition and source of the humidity in his basement. According to his knowledge, the basement had never had standing or flowing water, but it tends to grow mold and maintains a musty odor. The space is absolutely humid. This is a common situation for many of us homeowners and for this homeowner it was time to have this figured out instead of accepted as "normal."
So we came to take a look. Leader Basement System's Owner, Craig Leader, went to the home and made the suggestions to repair and prevent further issues in the basement. This is a combination project that will repair the foundation and address the humidity.
I actually used to think all basement just smelled musty and were damp and there wasn't anything persay wrong with any of that-- a basement wasn't where I lived anyways. Unfortunately, these aforementioned conditions do contribute to the air being breathed on the first floor of the home or building. So it is very important to understand what is underneath the home to ensure the home truly is safe.
We are so proud of the work we do and the service we provide that not only improves home value and function but prevents damage, improves indoor air quality and energy efficiency- just to name a few things! Keep reading for the solution to this damp basement.
Solution
This foundation is not properly supported, which poses a great threat to the longevity of this home and safety of those within the space. After evaluating the basement and foundation, it became clear that the floor joist system did need to be supported using our SmartJack XT, a supplemental beam would be installed and 12" long Joist Assist Bracket will be attached to the floor joists above the beam.
We will also take care of the humidy and subsequent mold with our SaniDry Sedona as well as a condensate pump to drain the water from the Sedona into the nearby sink.
