Dirt Floor and Block Walls
When dealing with a crawlspace, the objective is to seal the earth from the rest of the home. The porous block walls let moisture and unconditioned air into the home which eventually makes it way up into the rest of the house.
Ducts
Most crawlspaces have ducting which can 'sweat' which just means the cold pipes and the hot air in the crawlspace causes the water on the pipes to condense and evaporate into the home.
Different Areas
The tricky thing with crawlspaces under the home. is that there are often different 'rooms'. There is no way to partially (and effectively) treat a crawlspace. You cannot encapsulate one area under the home and neglect other areas with the expectation that the remaining earth will not negatively effect the home
Cleanspace Solution
You can see here with the Cleanspace wrap it is completely separating the earth from the rest of the home. No more dirt is exposed. Any moisture or water is underneath the Cleanspace.
Up the Walls
The Cleanspace goes all the way up the block walls to prevent the moisture from entering the porous concrete.
Rim Joist Spray Foam
The rim joists (the area between the foundation wall and the floor joists above the crawlspace) need to be sealed. We use an expanding spray foam to seal the rim joists from any air leaks, completing the installation and improving the health of the home!
