Quincy, MA Crawlspace Encapsulation
Challenge
This damp, cold, dirt floor crawlspace in Quincy, MA was creating issues for the homeowner. Above the crawlspace was an enclosed three-season room, but the floors were cold in fall and winter, and there was moisture and musty odors in warmer spring and summer months. Regardless of the season, it was creating an unpleasant experience. Having previously contacted DryZone about another project in the past, this homeowner was familiar with our company and the solutions we are able to offer - so they knew we could handle the task. The biggest challenge in this crawlspace would be working with the limited height of just 29 inches, and determining the best way to install the system to maximize efficiency and also make it look clean, organize and achieve the level of professionalism with our installs that we always are striving to reach.
Solution
Our inspector, Trevor, was certainly up to the challenge! By entering into the crawlspace, no matter how narrow or tight the squeeze, he was able to take accurate measurements and put together a proposal with detailed notes on how it would be installed for the crew if the homeowner decided to move forward (which they did)! By installing our CleanSpace vapor barrier encapsulation system on top of our drainage matting, it created a moisture and water barrier - that would also help prevent against small pests like bugs, flies, worms, etc that thrive in damp soil. With all new SilverGlo insulation installed, the crawlspace is better equipped now to regulate extreme temperatures in the winter and summer, making the three-season room above much more comfortable! TerraBlock is another great material to help really create an effective barrier between exposed dirt/earth crawlspaces and the actual vapor barrier that CleanSpace provides. A well rounded lineup for ultimate protection in this crawlspace should leave the homeowner feeling confident in our ability to protect their home for years to come!
