Humid Basement Solution Proposal in Chester, MA
Challenge
This basement in Chester, MA was a part of a home built in the early 1900's, so there has been some age to it most definitely. As time proceeded, this basement accumulated lots of moisture and water from the outside environment. When your basement gets damp, cold and musty from water, water damages can occur. These water damages aren't no joke either, the wood could begin to rot, the air begins to get humid and the air quality won't be good. When houses don't have a waterproofing system, the cost to repair the damages could be very pricy, so it's always good to get professional help!
Our inspector visited the basement to carefully assess the situation because the homeowner was unsure on how she can tackle this issue.
Solution
The inspector informed the homeowner that moisture was the root cause of the humidity lurking in the air. He told the homeowner that mold tends to grow in humid areas, and suggested that we encapsulate the whole basement with our CleanSpace wall vapor barrier. This would be the best way to cover the interior walls and block off the outside moisture from making its way into the basement. In addition, we would've installed a SaniDry Sedona to push out dry, clean air in efforts to decrease the relative humidity.
In the end, the homeowner decided to not go with our services because there was just too much going on at her house at the moment. But for a situation like this, we would most definitely consider using CleanSpace and SaniDry Sedona to help fight off the humidity. Remember, a humid basement is a dangerous basement!
