Crawl Space Project in Somerset, MA

Challenge

This family was concerned with water and mold in the crawlspace that was causing a terrible odor upstairs. Although their crawlspace had been previously encapsulated, it was not sealed properly and ineffective. Fiberglass insulation was also installed in the joist bays and had become sopping wet from moisture in the crawlspace. Once wet, the insulation no longer provides any benefit in the crawlspace or to the first floor.

Solution

Our System Design Specialist, Jay Hanrahan, designed a solution to remove the ruined insulation and encapsulate the crawlspace. The crew installed CleanSpace, our 20-mil crawl space vapor barrier to stop moisture from coming up through the dirt floor crawlspace and entering into the home. The crew also installed a SaniDry CX to reduce relative humidity in the crawlspace which will keep mold from growing. Now the 4ft crawlspace is completely sealed from outside moisture and can be used for storage.
