Hyannis, MA Crawl Space Encapsulation
Challenge
Leon had a dirt crawlspace in his summer cottage that was constantly damp and emitting a musty smell into the entire home. He wanted to take care of that and, if possible, winterize the home by installing some kind of insulation to keep his summer cottage running efficiently in every season. He met with Jay Hanrahan in the fall of 2013 to take a look at the problem, and more importantly-come up with a solution.
Solution
The solution Jay and Leon had come up with included encapsulating the entire crawlspace and installing a SmartDrain with a SaniDry CX to control moisture and humidity. They also decided to install our SilverGlo insulation on the walls because it dramatically reduces heat loss through the crawlspace walls. The SilverGlo is 2 inches thick and it has a radiant barrier to insulate and reflect heat back into the crawlspace. With an R-Value of R11, it is a very efficient and inexpensive way to save on heating and cooling costs in the long run.
The crawlspace was encapsulated by our lead foreman, Ricky DeOliviera. He installed the 20 mm Cleanspace and while in the crawlspace, noticed some moldy spots on some of the joists. This is not an uncommon find in a damp crawlspace so Ricky sprayed the area with MoldX, a very powerful mold remover. The SmartDrain was installed in the low spot of the crawlspace which has an alarm to alert the homeowner of any plumbing leaks.
This job was completed in 2014 and we have been servicing the SaniDry ever since. Leon is very happy with his results that have paid off over time!
