South Weymouth, MA Basement Gets Waterproofing Install
Challenge
This split-level home in South Weymouth, MA has a partially finished basement that the family uses as livable space. When water enters a finished living space, the way that these homeowners were experiencing leaks and flooding events accompanied by moisture and dampness in the aftermath - it becomes extremely stressful and often poses potential health hazards. When moisture and dampness linger, it creates conditions that allow mold, mildew and fungi to grow and form, which can lead to health issues later down the line. And although this family had a sump pump installed, it for some reason was not proving to be effective in mitigating water intrusion and moisture. When they contacted DryZone, it was our inspector David's challenge to identify the source and come up with an effective plan to stop the flooding, carry away the water, and eliminate the conditions that could lead to mold and mildew growth.
Solution
David was able to identify the likely source of water entry as being along the wall/floor joint; this is common in many homes, as water will often find the path of least resistance to enter through, and because the wall and floor are not constructed in most homes in one piece - it becomes a natural pathway for water. To address this concern, David proposed and our team installed our patented drainage system to be installed along the wall/floor joint, called WaterGuard. This WaterGuard creates a pathway through which the water can now travel over to our TripleSafe sump pump system. The TripleSafe sump pump includes fully cast-iron primary and secondary pumps (one of which is 1/2 HP pump, with the other being a 1/3 HP pump), and a fully operational batter powered back up pump in case of power failure, or a flooding event that causes a rise in the liner beyond the first two pumps. The basin of the sump is dug down into the ground- to help catch water from seeping up above the foundation floor. And the third biggest component of the solution tailored for this basement was the installation of our SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. Set to kick in at a particular percentage of relative humidity, this unit won't be running unless it detects the need to, and is set up to drain automatically - so there is no need to be constantly emptying a unit so that it may keep running!
This basement is now well protected with three of our most powerful products, and they can rest easy knowing that - in the event of any emergency or system failure - DryZone has an emergency service line and an on-call technician 24/7. We are always ready to help when we are needed!
