Moisture Crawlspace In Norwell, MA
Challenge
A homeowner that lives in Norwell, MA was not content with the conditions in his dirt crawlspace. Every time he would go down there, he would be overwhelmed by coldness and moisture. The moisture that was getting in was causing strange odors and made the crawlspace very humid. If he didn't do anything on the matter, then mold could start to grow onto the wood that could lead to structural damage. Not only that, but any air in his crawlspace naturally gets pushed up into the floors above due to the stacking effect, which could give his whole family poor breathing conditions. He wanted no part in these issues so he gave us a call.
Solution
We sent over one of our inspectors to take a closer look at the problem. He noticed the strange musty smell along with how cold it felt down there. The inspector proposed to keep the moisture out by encapsulating the whole crawlspace with CleanSpace vapor barrier that will separate the earth from his house. In addition, the inspector recommended to apply SilverGlo wall insulation to reflect heat back in and lastly wanted to include our SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier that would dry out the air and get rid of the moisture causing the dampness. All three of the components were intruiging enough, and the homeowner agreed to the installation. The crew placed out some drainage mattings on the floor, covered them with CleanSpace vapor barrier, got rid of the debris to place in the SilverGlo wall insulation then plugged in the SaniDry Sedona to complete the job! Now, he has a complete waterproofing system in his crawlspace that will keep relative humidity below 55% and stay warm.
