Iron Ochre Bacteria Cleaning in Shrewsbury, MA Sump Pump
Challenge
During an annual service checkup we identified a very large amount of Iron Ochre Bacteria within the Sump Pump Basin in this Shrewsbury, MA homeowner's basement. The issue with Iron Ochre Bacteria is that while it isn't a health concern, it is a concern for drainage systems because it can cause clogging and corrosion. Back in 2016 we installed 126 ft of WaterGuard Sub-Floor Drainage System as well as a TripleSafe Sump Pump and of course a drainage line. So, it is crucial that we clear this out so that our systems do not get clogged and damaged.
Solution
In this situation we just needed to clean this Sump Pump basin and inspect the rest of the units we had installed to ensure there isn't any additional Iron Ochre that needs to be cleaned. Again, the reason this must be removed sooner than later is because of the clogging and damage it can cause to the products. We always want the units to last as long as possible and function at their best and our service visits help that to happen. Remember this was just part of a usual annual maintenance checkup.
We used a hot water flushing to cleanse and scrub the Sump basin and we investigated the WaterGuard, the Discharge line as well.
The unit is not clean and in good shape. We recommend when we find recurring Iron Ochre to have checks done every 3 months to keep a good handle on things and see how things progress or slow down.
