2020 Blood Drive with the American Red Cross
This past June we hosted our Second Annual Blood Drive with the American Red Cross! With the COVID-19 pandemic underway, we were feeling some uncertainty whether we would still be able to have the drive and make our impact. Luckily, the Red Cross kept their drives going but just added additional guidelines and precautions to keep them, the volunteers and donors safe! Our drive ran on appointments only but our schedule filled so quickly, we were so amazed at the amount of people in our community that wanted to donate!
With a full schedule and the drive only a couple weeks away, we ran into a speed bump! With the new precautions, our office space was too small to safely run the drive and keep everyone distant. The worry of being able to host our drive quickly diminished when the Red Cross worked to find us a new location for our Blood Drive, about 5 minutes down the road from our office. The Conant Community Health Center opened their doors for us and the drive was saved, until we discovered another obstacle! When our drive was moved, all the appointments made were lost and our fully booked drive was now empty. With less than two weeks to the drive, we rallied to get our old donors rescheduled and all the appointments filled and was successful. Another roadblock safely averted!
In the end we had a successful drive, we had over 30 donors and collected 32 units of blood! With each unit having the potential to save up to three lives, we donated enough blood to save about 96 people in our community! We are so lucky to have members of our team and community that are willing to go out of their way to give back.
The need for blood is constant so please consider donating! You can find more information and schedule an appointment at redcrossblood.org.
